Infrastructure Installing and Configuring Self-Service Portal VMM 2008 VMM Console

Introduction
Self-Service Portal is an optional component of SCVMM 2008 that allows users and server administrators to create and manage their own virtual machines, using a web interface. The portal uses SCVMM 2008 features self-service user to determine or limit the scope of user actions. The following article provides steps to install and configure the Self-Service Portal.

Installing and configuring self-service portal, involves four steps.
1.Install the Self-Service Portal.
2.To determine which hosts the Hyper-V technology and should be dedicated portal service for hosting virtual machines
3.Create a Host Group and move all the candidates for Hyper-V self to that group. 4.Crear
self-service group.

Installation requirements self-service portal can be installed on the VMM server or on a different computer. The following information details the requirements to install self-service portal on a dedicated machine.

Software Requirements To install the self-service portal, you need a base operating system and IIS to host the Web console.
Windows Server 2008 x64 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter Edition
Windows Server 2003 (or R2) with SP2
Internet Information Server (IIS)

hardware requirements Hardware requirements for a dedicated self-defined Services Portal by the number of concurrent users that the portal will serve. The following table lists the recommended minimum hardware configuration for Self-Service Portal dedicated servers.
For up to 10 simultaneous users of the portal:

4 GB Memory Red 1 Gb Ethernet
hardware components Recommendation
processor a single processor, dual core, 3.2 GHz ( x64)

Before adding a Hyper-V the SCVMM Administration Console
requires at least two updates: KB956589
- To solve a communication problem between the agent of SCVMM 2008 and SCVMM VMM server.
KB956774 - fix a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) SCVMM problem that prevents the installation of Agent bankruptcy.
Before attempting to add a Hyper-V host the SCVMM console, you must install KB956774 on the Hyper-V host. Once you have added the Hyper-V host the SCVMM console and the agent has been installed, you can view the status requires attention. At this point you need to install KB956589 on the Hyper-V hosts to update the client for regular status OK.
Installing Virtual Machine Manager Server Component
Once you have the administrative component VMM console installed, you can proceed with the installation of self-service portal. The self-service portal will be the main interface for administrators or end users to use to manage virtual machines running on Hyper-V own farm.

Settings screen the library, select whether you want to grant the members of self-service user group access to a portion of the library. If self-service allows users to store their virtual machines in a library share, store virtual machines do not count against any virtual machine quota is set to allow users self-service to create a virtual machine click Next.
9.Revise your options and click Create to create the group of self-service user.
Once we define all the permissions and options for self-service user role, the role members can access self-service portal. When a user self-service logs for the first time, see the following screen:

If they have the right to create new virtual machines, the choice of new equipment will allow them to select one of the predefined templates assigned. The menu of actions will allow all actions that the user has permissions based on user role.
