The constellation of Auriga is an interesting area because there are several open clusters are easily observable. On December 26, pointed it at the three best known: M36, M 37 and M 38.
M 36 is located N easily the line between Zeta Aur. and Alnath. At first glance it receives a round tag that looks grainy. More detail can be seen inside the cloud four stars arranged in a triangle.
M 37 is a bit S of the imaginary line joining Zeta Aur. and Alnath. It is also easy to find and is located in a lower density of stars, so I took a little less do the drawing. In this case the first thing that strikes attention, compared to M 36, is the largest and that despite being one of magnitude 5.6 seems weaker. Yet vision is clearly and directly as a round tag that could be mistaken for a globular cluster.
Then I looked at M38, a little more to the north of M37, but I did not distinguish despite having it located in the visual field. This is a cluster that I have hanging for my next trip to the darkest places.
no doubt that this constellation is a good option if you want to spend some time looking through binoculars, so I encourage this and, better yet do some drawing.
